Two of the UFC’s top welterweights will collide in the co-main event of UFC 174 this Saturday (June 14), when Tyron Woodley (13-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) takes on hometown hero Rory MacDonald (16-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in Vancouver, Canada.
Former Strikeforce title challenger Tyron Woodley recently scored a huge win over Carlos Condit at March’s UFC 171 event in Dallas, Texas. The victory marked “T-Wood’s” second in a row, this after knocking out Josh Koscheck at November’s UFC 167 event. Woodley has gone 3-1 inside the octagon since joining the UFC as part of the Strikeforce merger. His lone loss was suffered to Jake Shields, who defeated Woodley via judges split-decision at UFC 161 in Winnipeg.
Meanwhile, Kalapaki Joe’s sponsored fighter, Rory MacDonald, is coming off a dominant decision win over submission specialist Demian Maia at February’s UFC 170 event in Las Vegas. Prior to that, the Canadian welterweight standout suffered a split-decision loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 167.
“Ares” began his UFC career with 3 finishes in his first 4 octagon appearances. Since then, Rory has gone 3-1, with all three wins coming by way of judges decision. The 24 year-old has already scored wins over top talent such as Jake Ellenberger, B.J. Penn, Nate Diaz and Mike Pyle during his young UFC career.
UFC 174 takes place June 14 live from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following the preliminary-card bouts on FX and UFC Fight Pass.
