The Calgary Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings by a final score of 3-1 on Thursday night, officially eliminating LA from this year’s NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It is a huge disappointment for the Kings, who had won 2 of the past 3 NHL Stanley Cup Championships (2012, 2014).

Meanwhile, with Thursday’s win, the Calgary Flames clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2009.

Calgary will now meet the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Kings loss to the Flames also guaranteed the Winnipeg Jets their first playoff berth since relocating to Winnipeg in 2011.
