Everything seemed to be going so well for the Oakland Raiders heading in to Week 16 of the NFL regular season.
Unfortunately for Raider Nation, their star young quarterback Derek Carr suffered a broken leg against the Indianapolis Colts in the second last game of the season, basically crushing the teams hopes of a Super Bowl title.
Oakland turned to backup QB Matt McGloin in Week 17, but he to suffered an injury in a 24-6 road loss to division rivals the Denver Broncos.
The Raiders loss to the Broncos in Week 17 allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to steal away the AFC West Championship and a first-round bye in this year’s playoffs.
With that said, Oakland will now travel to Houston to battle the Texans this Saturday afternoon.
Oakland will now turn to third string rookie quarterback Connor Cook under center.
Cook played well after coming in against a tough Broncos defense last week in Denver and will need to play even better if Oakland plans on picking up a road win in Houston this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Houston Texans (9-7) recently turned to Tom Savage as their starting quarterback after former starter Brock Osweiler had a dismal season under center.
Unfortunately for Savage supporters, Tom suffered an injury in last week’s loss to the Titans, so Houston will be turning the ball back over to former Broncos QB Brock Osweiler for their matchup with the Raiders.
Both teams will need to rely on their defenses in Saturday’s Wild Card game and with that said I have to believe that the Houston Texans hold the advantage.
Houston has a very good defense and with Oakland turning to a rookie quarterback it is hard to imagine how the Raiders find a way to get a lot of points in this game.
I predict that the Houston Texans will defeat the Oakland Raiders by a final score of 19-13.
