The injury bug has struck again!

This time it’s June’s UFC Fight Night 69 event headliner that has taken the hit.

UFC officials announced today that Alexander Gustaffson has been forced out of his scheduled main event bout with former title challenger Glover Teixeira.

No word yet if a replacement opponent will be sought for Teixeira to keep him on the card in Berlin.

UFC officials did not give any additional information regarding Gustafsson’s injury.

A strawweight title fight featuring current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (9-0 MMA) taking on challenger Jessica Penne (12-2 MMA) will now headline the card.

Jedrzejczyk will make her first title defense since defeating inaugural strawweight champion Carla Esparza via second-round TKO at March’s UFC 185 event in Dallas. The 27-year-old Polish fighter has gone a perfect 9-0 in her young MMA career, which includes 4 stoppage wins to her credit.

Meanwhile, Jessica Penne was most recently seen in action at December’s TUF 20 Finale event, where she scored a hard-fought split-decision win over Randa Markos. Prior to her victory over Markos, Penne suffered a decision loss to Carla Esparza in the semifinal of Season 20 of “The Ultimate Fighter”.

UFC Fight Night 69 takes place June 20 live from the O2 World Berlin in Germany’s capital city. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Report: Gustafsson vs. Teixeira targeted for UFC Fight Night 69

A key light heavyweight battle is being targeted for June’s ‘UFC Fight Night 69’ event in Berlin, as Swedish website Kimura.se is reporting that a match between former title challengers Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira is being setup by UFC officials.

Alexander Gustafsson (16-3 MMA) was last seen in action at January’s ‘UFC on FOX 14’ event in Sweden, where he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Anthony Johnson in front of a sold out home crowd. Prior to the setback, “The Mauler” was coming off a second-round TKO victory which he earned over Jimi Manuwa in March of 2014.

Meanwhile, Glover Teixeira (22-4 MMA) will be looking to snap the first 2-fight losing skid of his career when he faces Gustafsson this June. Teixeira was most recently seen in action at October’s UFC 179 event, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Phil Davis. Prior to that, Glover had suffered a 5-round beatdown at the hands of current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 172 in Baltimore.

UFC Fight Night 69 takes place June 20 live from 02 World Berlin Arena in Germany.

History will be made when Swedish superstar and No. 1 ranked light heavyweight contender Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson meets No. 3 ranked knockout artist Anthony “Rumble” Johnson on Saturday, January 24 in Stockholm, Sweden to determine the next UFC light heavyweight title challenger.

The bout will take place in front of more than 30,000 fans at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, marking just the second major stadium event in UFC history and the first in Europe. The previous stadium event was the record-breaking UFC 129 event held at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada, as more than 55,000 fans watched Georges St-Pierre defeat Jake Shields.

Gustafsson narrowly lost his title bid to reigning champion Jon “Bones” Jones in the greatest light heavyweight title fight of all time in September of 2013. Now, the rejuvenated 27-year-old will look to draw off the support of a massive hometown crowd when he meets Johnson, a winner of eight straight, including a devastating knockout win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in his last bout.

“This is going to be an epic event,” Gustafsson, who defeated Jimi Manuwa in his last bout in March, said. “I want more than 30,000 fans to come and witness me win on January 24. Then I’m going to go and get the title! My journey back to the top starts now. ”

“This fight might be on his home turf, but I’m ready to go over to Sweden and prove that I’m the next in the line for the UFC light heavyweight title,” Johnson said. “I’m not intimidated by fighting in front of Alex’s hometown fans. I’m going to go in there and look for the knockout like I do in all of my fights. I can’t wait for this!”

UFC on FOX 14 takes places January 24 live form at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The evenings co-main event featured a middleweight battle between Kalapaki Joe’s sponsored fighter Gegard Mousasi and former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson.
