Rumor: Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva possible for UFC 206

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre spoke with Canadian Sports Outlet “RDS” two days ago and stated that he would be making a “big announcement” next week.

Rumors are now swirling that GSP’s big announcement could be a super-fight with former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva, which would headline the UFC 206 pay-per-view event set for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

St-Pierre’s long time friend and teammate Patrick “The Predator” Cote acknowledged the recent rumor on social media tweeting the following:

St-Pierre has not competed inside the octagon since his November of 2013 split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in Las Vegas.

Georges St-Pierre interview

Following his title-retaining victory over “Bigg Rigg” at UFC 167, Georges shocked the mixed martial arts world by announcing that he was walking away from the sport and thus vacating his UFC welterweight strap.

The Canadian superstar is currently riding a twelve-fight win streak and has not suffered a loss since April of 2007 when he was stopped by Matt Serra at UFC 69.

Meanwhile, former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva was last seen in action at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event where he suffered a decision loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, this after taking the fight on just two days notice.

Prior to that, “The Spider” suffered a decision loss to current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in a “Fight of the night” performance at UFC Fight Night 84 this past February.

Silva has gone 0-4 with 1 no-contest in his past five fights, suffering two losses to Chris Weidman during that time. Before his recent skid, Anderson Silva was riding an incredible 16-fight win streak and was considered by many to be the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Earlier this week it was announced that current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier would be defending his title in a rematch against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206 in Toronto. However, the light heavyweight title fight between “DC” and “Rumble” was not announced as the main event for the December 10 fight card, leaving the door open for “GSP” to still headline the event in front of his home nation.

Would you like to see Georges St-Pierre return to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 206, or would you prefer a different opponent for the long time welterweight king?

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva finally had his day in ‘court’, when he appeared in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission to deal with his failed drug tests from UFC 183.

If you recall, Anderson tested positive for banned substances after his unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz at January’s UFC 183 event in Las Vegas.

Today’s hearing lasted quite some time, with lots of back and forth between Silva’s team and the commission.

Silva’s team tried to play the pills were for ‘sexual performance’ defense, but the commission was not buying it.

In the end, the commission handed “The Spider” a one-year suspension and fined the former UFC champion $380,000 for his negligence.

Anderson’s victory over Nick Diaz was also overturned to a no-contest by the commission.

At 40-years of age, do you think we will ever see Anderson Silva step back in to the octagon?

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva (34-6 MMA) is currently waiting to receive his suspension from the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) for his failed drug test at January’s UFC 183 event in Las Vegas.

The longtime UFC middleweight title holder tested positive for anabolic steroids, while his opponent Nick Diaz ended up flunking for marijuana.

Despite their failed drug tests and pending suspensions, “The Spider” is already asking UFC President Dana White to set up a rematch with Diaz in his native Brazil:

“I believe that there is some things that are unfinished between me and Nick Diaz, I now hope that you, Dana White can accept my request and make a rematch possible in my county, Brazil.” Wrote Anderson on his official Instagram page.

No word yet from Dana White regarding a response to Anderson’s request.

Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz has had his troubles regarding testing positive for banned substances in the past.

That’s why it should not come as too much of a surprise that the “Stockton Slugger” tested positive for marijuana following his UFC 183 unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced yesterday that Diaz had failed his post-fight drug test as a result of marijuana metabolites.

The really surprising news came when the NSAC announced that former UFC champ Anderson Silva had tested positive for steroids following last weekend’s UFC 183 event.
