Browns cut Brock Osweiler, Broncos serve him a 1-year deal

The Denver Broncos and Brock Osweiler are once again an item.

Just days after being cut by the Cleveland Browns, Osweiler re-signed with the that drafted him in 2012 but failed to retain his services in 2016.

Osweiler spent his latest season with the Houston Texans where he had an absolutely dismal year.

The Browns will still have to pay $16 million of Brock’s salary, meaning the Broncos are paying next to nothing for their former pivot.

Osweiler will serve as backup quarterback to starter Trevor Siemian for Denver this season.

Current Broncos general manager and former star quarterback John Elway discusses the acquisition:

“When Brock made that decision [to sign with Houston], he made the best decision that he thought was best for him,” Elway told reporters Saturday night. “It’s just kind of funny how these things worked out with our situation and Brock being available — funny how everything aligned. We know that Brock can win football games with us, he’s got a lot of experience and that was one glaring hole we had at that time in my mind when Paxton [Lynch] hurt the shoulder. We’re able to get it fixed.”

Browns place quarterback RG3 on injured reserve

By: Chris Taylor (Kalapaki Joe’s Staff Writer)

Bad news for Cleveland Browns fans. On Monday morning the team announced that quarterback Robert Griffin III would miss an extended period of time after suffering a shoulder injury in the squads week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Griffin was place on injury reserve and could easily miss the remainder of this NFL season.

That means that the Browns will once again turn to quarterback Josh McCown under center.

The 37-year-old has played well for the Browns over the past two seasons and should be able to step in and fill the void without any issues.

In 8 starts with Cleveland last season, McCown threw for 12 touchdowns against just 4 interceptions and a completion percentage of 63.7%.

The Browns will host the Baltimore Ravens in week 2 of the NFL regular season.

Former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn (16-10-2) will return to the octagon this summer when he squares off with Dennis Siver (22-11 MMA) in a featherweight bout at June’s UFC 199 pay-per-view event in Inglewood, California.

UFC officials just made the announcement.

“The Prodigy” will return to the octagon for the first time since losing to Frankie Edgar in the main event of the ‘TUF 19 Finale’ in July of 2014. The UFC Hall of Famer is looking to make a run at the promotions featherweight title. Thirteen of Penn’s sixteen career victories have come by form of stoppage (submission/KO).

Meanwhile, Dennis Siver was last seen in action at June’s UFC Fight Night 69 event, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri. The 37-year-old has gone 3-3 with 1 no-contest over his past seven octagon appearances. Siver’s most recent win came over Charles Rosa via decision at UFC Fight Night 53.

UFC 199 takes place June 4 and is headlined by a middleweight title fight rematch featuring current champ Luke Rockhold defending his strap against former title holder Chris Weidman. In the evening’s co-main event, UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will defend his title against bitter rival Urijah Faber.

How do you see the Penn vs. Siver bout playing out?

Manziel helps Browns snap seven-game losing streak!

Johnny Manziel helped the Cleveland Browns (3-10) snap a seven-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon, as he led the struggling Ohio squad to a 24-10 home victory over the San Francisco 49ers (4-9).

The second-year quarterback had a strong game against the 49ers yesterday in Cleveland, completing 21 of 31 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown.

Manziel also carried the ball seven times for a total of 15 yards.

“JFF” will be in tough next week when his Browns head to Seattle to take on the surging Seahawks.

Cleveland’s final two games of the season come against Kansas City on the road and at home against division rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers.

While Manziel will be hard-pressed to win any of his remaining three starts, he has proven to be more successful than his fellow Browns quarterbacks, who have gone 1-8 when starting under center in 2015.

Johnny is now 2-1 as a starting quarterback this season and has definitely given Browns fans hope for the future.
