A battle between two former MMA champions will co-headline UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston, as UFC officials announced today that former UFC lightweight title holder Benson Henderson will meet former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez on the January fight card.

Both men, Alvarez and Henderson, are coming off of losses in their last octagon appearances.

The former Bellator champion, Eddie Alvarez (25-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC), will be looking to rebound, this after losing his octagon debut to Donald Cerrone at September’s UFC 178 event in Las Vegas. The loss snapped a 3-fight win streak for Eddie.

Meanwhile, former UFC champ Benson Henderson will be looking to make a statement, this after suffering a first-round knockout loss to Rafael dos Anjos in his last performance. Prior to that, “Smooth” was coming off a “Performance of the Night” submission win over Rustam Khabilov at UFC Fight Night 42.

UFC Fight Night 59 takes place January 18 live from Boston’s TD Garden. The event is headlined by a featherweight tilt between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver.

A key lightweight bout between Donald Cerrone and Myles Jury will co-headline January’s UFC 182 event in Las Vegas.

UFC officials made the announcement earlier today.

Cerrone and Jury were originally slated to fight at January’s “UFC Fight Night 59” in Boston. However, due to some recent card shuffling by the UFC, the pair of lightweight contenders will now do battle on Pay-Per-View.

Donald Cerrone (25-6 MMA, 12-3 UFC) is currently riding a five-fight win streak, with four of those five victories coming by form of stoppage. “Cowboy’s” most recent effort saw him score a unanimous decision win over former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at September’s UFC 178 event in Las Vegas. Cerrone has earned “Performance of the night” bonuses in 4 of his past 5 octagon appearances.

Meanwhile, Myles Jury (15-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) will be looking to make a statement when he faces “Cowboy” this January in Boston. “Fury” has gone a perfect 6-0 inside the octagon, with his most recent win coming over former Pride champion Takanori Gomi via first-round TKO at September’s UFC Fight Night event in Japan. Prior to that win, Jury disposed of Diego Sanchez, scoring a lopsided unanimous decision win over the TUF veteran at March’s UFC 171 event in Dallas, Texas.

UFC 182 takes place January 3 live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight featuring champion Jon Jones taking on number one contender Daniel Cormier.

The UFC women’s bantamweight championship bout between title holder Ronda Rousey and number one contender Cat Zingano has shifted from January’s UFC 182 event in Las Vegas to February’s UFC 184 event in Los Angeles.

UFC officials announced the change earlier today, however no reason for the switch was given.

Ronda Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was last seen in action at July’s UFC 175 event in Las Vegas, where she mauled her opponent Alexis Davis in just 16-seconds to earn the knockout victory. Prior to that, “Rowdy” was coming off a first-round stoppage win over former Olympian Sara McMann.

Meanwhile, Cat Zingano solidified her number one contender status at September’s UFC 178 event in Las Vegas by defeating Amanda Nunes via third-round TKO. Prior to that, Cat had been sidelined by a knee injury, which was followed by the unfortunate death of her spouse, who committed suicide.

UFC 184 takes place February 28 live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The pay-per-view event is headlined by a middleweight title fight between current champion Chris Weidman and number one contender Vitor Belfort.
