Adrian Peterson will not return to football this season‏

Minnesota Vikings running back and former NFL MVP, Adrian Peterson, will not be returning to the football field in 2014.

The NFL announced Tuesday morning that Peterson will be suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2014 season, and cannot be considered for reinstatement until April 15, 2015.

Commissioner Roger Goodell expanded on his decision in the following letter to Peterson:

“The timing of your potential reinstatement will be based on the results of the counseling and treatment program set forth in this decision. Under this two-step approach, the precise length of the suspension will depend on your actions. We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement. You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy.”

Peterson, who stands accused of an “incident of abusive discipline” toward his 4-year-old son, has three days to mount an appeal, which the NFLPA indicates will happen. The All-Pro has made no secret about his desire to return to football as quickly as possible.

Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine headlines UFC Fight Night 60‏

A welterweight bout featuring Matt Brown taking on Tarec Saffiedine will headline ‘UFC Fight Night 60’ on February 14 in Broomfield, Colorado.

UFC officials announced the bout yesterday during their special ‘UFC: The Time is Now’ press conference.

Matt Brown (19-12 MMA, 12-6 UFC) is coming off a 5-round war against Robbie Lawler that saw ‘The Immortal’ lose a unanimous decision. The loss snapped a 7-fight win streak for Brown.

Meanwhile, Tarec Saffiedine (15-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is coming off a TKO loss which he suffered to Rory MacDonald at last month’s UFC Fight Night 54 event in Halifax. The loss marked the first time ‘Sponge’ had been finished in his career and also snapped the fighters five-fight win streak.

Browns’ Josh Gordon reinstated by NFL‏

Browns’ Josh Gordon reinstated by NFL‏

The Cleveland Browns (6-4) will have wide receiver Josh Gordon back in their lineup when they take on the Falcons this Sunday (Nov. 23) in Atlanta.

Gordon was reinstated on Monday, this after serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Josh Gordon led the NFL in receiving yards last season (2013) with 1,646 yards and 9 touchdown scores.

The former Baylor star will likely make his season debut against the Falcons this weekend.

The news couldn’t come at a better time for the Browns fans, as Cleveland’s offense has been struggling in recent weeks.

Cleveland suffered an embarrassing 23-7 home loss to the Houston Texans this past weekend.

The defeat moved the Browns from first place to last place in the always tough AFC North Division.

Steelers at Titans Monday Night Football Preview‏

Steelers at Titans Monday Night Football Preview‏

By: Chris Taylor (Kalapaki Joe’s Staff Writer)

The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4) will travel to Tennessee tonight to battle the Titans in Week 11’s edition of Monday Night Football.

Pittsburgh will be looking to rebound, this after suffering a 20-13 loss to the New York Jets in Week 10.

Prior to that loss, Pittsburgh had scored back-to-back blowout wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens respectively.

The Steelers rank #6 in the league in terms of offensive production, averaging 26.1 points per game.

Pittsburgh has gone 2-3 on the road so far this season, scoring wins over Jacksonville and Carolina, while suffering losses to Cleveland, Baltimore and the New York Jets.

The bad news for Steelers fans tonight is that Pittsburgh has gone just 2-8 in their past 10 trips to Tennessee.

The good news for ‘Pitt’ fans is that the Titans have struggled on offense all season.

Tennessee is currently ranked #30 in the league in points per game, averaging a dismal 16.0 points.

Pittsburgh will be hoping that their star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger can return to the form that saw him throw 6 touchdown passes in back-to-back games against Colts and Ravens.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans (2-7) have lost 3 straight games coming in to tonight’s Monday Night contest with the Steelers.

Tennessee’s last victory came at home against the Jaguars in Week 6.

Zach Mettenberger at quarterback hasn’t done much to spark a Tennessee offense that has scored 17 points or less in each of its last four games.

This will be a rare Monday Night Football appearance for the Titans, but the good news is the squad has performed well on Monday night in the past, going 4-0 against the spread.

Las Vegas currently has Pittsburgh pegged as -6.5 point road favorites, with the over under being set at 45.5.

I believe Pittsburgh will win tonight’s game by a final score of 24-16.
