The Pittsburgh Penguins are gearing up for a run at a third straight Stanley Cup!

The Pittsburgh Penguins have played more hockey over the past two years than any other team in the National Hockey League.

That is what happens when you win back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships.

The Penguins won their second-straight Stanley Cup last June when they defeated the Nashville Predators 4-2 in their best of seven playoff series.

Pittsburgh’s success can be largely contributed to their “three-headed monster” which comes in the form of Team Captain Sidney Crosby and Assistant Captains Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel.

All three players currently sit tied for fourth in league scoring with 66 points a piece.

Evgeni Malkin leads the team in goals scored with 32, which is also good for second spot in the league, trailing only Washington Capitals sniper Alexander Ovechkin who currently has netted 34.

The Penguins currently sit in second spot in the Metropolitan Division with 70-points and seem poised for another run at this year’s Stanley Cup Championship.

Pittsburgh has gone 8-1-1 over the course of their last ten games and seem to have found their groove just in time for their next playoff run.

The Penguins are hoping to become the first team since the 1983 New York Islanders to win three straight Stanley Cups.

March’s UFC 222 pay-per-view event was expected to be headlined by a featherweight title between current champ Max Holloway and top contender Frankie Edgar.

Unfortunately for fight fans, the Hawaiian champion suffered a leg injury and was forced to pull out of his highly anticipated title fight with “The Answer”.

With that news, the promotion was forced to find a new event headliner on short-notice for the March 3 fight card in Las Vegas.

In the end, the UFC convinced current women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg to help save the UFC 222 card by accepting a fight with Invicta FC bantamweight title holder Yana Kunitskaya.

Cyborg was last seen in action at December’s UFC 219 event, where she scored a unanimous decision victory over former women’s bantamweight title holder Holly Holm.

Meanwhile, Yana Kunitskaya was most recently seen in action at Invicta FC 25 where she captured the promotions vacant bantamweight title by scoring a unanimous decision win over Raquel Pa’aluhi.

As for the aforementioned UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, “The Answer” will still compete on the March 3 fight card when he throws down with surging division contender Brian Ortega in a non-title bout.

Edgar is currently riding a two-fight win streak, his latest being a second-round TKO victory over Yair Rodriguez at May’s UFC 211 event in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Ortega recently extended his record to a perfect 13-0 by scoring a submission victory over perennial division contender Cub Swanson this past December.

Cub Swanson is down to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 222!

The perennial featherweight contender, Cub Swanson, recently responded to a fan on Twitter where he offered to help save March’s UFC 222 event by fighting Nate Diaz.

The fan had tweeted “Nate Diaz vs Cub Swanson UFC 222 Save the PPV!”, to which Cub replied “I’m down!”

UFC 222 recently lost its event headliner after Max Holloway was forced out of his title fight with Frankie Edgar due to an injury.

Cub Swanson has gone 4-1 over his past five fights, with his lone loss in that time coming to Brian Ortega.

Meanwhile, Nate Diaz has not competed since suffering a controversial majority decision loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 202.

Frankie Edgar will fight anyone at any weight class and Cody Garbrandt is down!

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto broke some very unfortunate news Friday when he announced that current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway had suffered an injury and was no longer able to defend his belt against Frankie Edgar at UFC 222.

With that news, the UFC has been left scrambling to try and find a new main event while attempting to keep “The Answer” on the March 3 fight card in Las Vegas.

MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani reported that the UFC was hoping to have Brian Ortega replace the injured Max Holloway against Frankie Edgar in a non-title bout.

The promotion was also hoping to book a short-notice bantamweight title fight rematch between current champ T.J. Dillashaw and former title holder Cody Garbrandt to help salvage the card.

Unfortunately for fight fans hoping to see that rematch, Dillashaw is apparently injured and would rather return at UFC 226 this July in a super-fight with current Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

The always game former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar recently took to Twitter where he bravely announced that he would be willing to fight anyone in any weight class to save the UFC 222 pay-per-view event.

“I’m down for anyone, any fight, any weight class. Let’s save this fight card! @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2” – Frankie Edgar

It did not take long for “The Answer” to receive an offer, as the aforementioned former UFC bantamweight champion of the world Cody Garbrandt took to social media with the following.

“@AliAbdelaziz00 get us paid I’m down!! #fightersfight” – Cody Garbrandt

Is this the fight to make?
