Urijah Faber vs. Francisco Rivera set for UFC 181 in Las Vegas

Urijah Faber (31-7 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will return to the octagon this December when he faces Francisco Rivera (10-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC 181 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the booking on Wednesday evening.

Perennial UFC bantamweight contender, Urijah Faber, has won 6 of his past 8 octagon bouts, with both of his losses in that time coming to former title holder Renan Barao. “The California Kid” was most recently seen in action at July’s UFC 175 event in Las Vegas, where he earned a third-round submission win over Alex Caceres. The former WEC champion is eyeing another win streak to put him back into title contention.

Meanwhile, Francisco Rivera recently had his five fight win streak halted by Takeya Mizugaki at May’s UFC 173 event in Las Vegas. Prior to the setback, Rivera was coming off a TKO win over George Roop which he earned at the UFC’s “Fight For The Troops 3” event in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

UFC 181 takes place December 6 live from the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pay-per-view event is headlined by a welterweight title fight rematch featuring current champ Johny Hendricks taking on #1 contender Robbie Lawler.

Be sure to come watch the UFC 181 pay-per-view event live at one of Kauai’s Kalapaki Joe’s locations this December. Reservations for table of 8 or more are recommended and can be made online.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao (32-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) will return to the octagon this December when he meets Mitch Gagnon (12-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at “UFC Fight Night 58” in Brazil.

Renan Barao will return to the octagon for the first time since losing his strap to T.J. Dillashaw at May’s UFC 173 event in Las Vegas. That loss snapped a 33-fight win streak for Barao, which included a perfect 7-0 run in the UFC.

Barao had been slated to rematch T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 177, but unfortunately the former champion fell ill while cutting weight and was unable to perform.

Meanwhile, Mitch Gagnon will be looking to extend his current win streak to five when he takes on Barao this winter. The Canadian bantamweight was most recently seen in action earlier this month at “UFC Fight Night 54”, where he scored a submission win over Roman Salazar. Prior to that, Gagnon earned a decision win over Tim Gorman in April.

“UFC Fight Night 58” takes place December 20 live from Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil. FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass are expected to carry the card.

The event is headlined by a middleweight fight featuring former lightweight champ Lyoto Machida taking on the always game C.B. Dollaway.

Will Mitch Gagnon be able to pull of the upset or will Barao return to form in front of his home country?

Be sure to catch this event live at one of Kauai’s Kalapaki Joe’s locations!
