Eli Manning gets GIANT 4-year extension!‏

The New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning agreed to a four-year $84 million contract extension on Friday morning.

NFL media insider Ian Rapoport was first to report the news, adding that the deal is expected to include $65 million in guaranteed money.

The deal is very similar to recent extensions given to Chargers QB Philip Rivers and Seahawks pivot Russell Wilson.

With his new extension, Eli ($21 million average) is now the third-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, only trailing Aaron Rodgers ($22 million) and Russell Wilson ($21.9 million) respectively.

The 34-year-old has never missed a start in 11 seasons with the Giants and has earned two Super Bowl MVP Awards to his credit.

Last season, Eli threw for a total of 4,410 yards, with 30 touchdown passes against 14 interceptions.

The New York Giants open their season Sunday night on the road against division rival the Dallas Cowboys.

Eddie Alvarez says he is booked to fight Pettis this January in Boston‏

Eddie Alvarez says he is booked to fight Pettis this January in Boston‏

Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (26-4 MMA) recently took to twitter to announce that his rumoured fight with former UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis (18-3 MMA) is official for the UFC’s January fight card in Boston.

@Ealvarezfight: “It’s official, at first I just wanted the guy, now I got location too, thank you @ufc @danawhite, gonna blow the roof off Beantown!!”

No booking announcement has been made by the UFC at this time, but the bout seems all but official.

Eddie Alvarez was most recently seen in action at June’s UFC 188 event in Mexico City, where he scored a split-decision victory over former Strikeforce title holder Gilbert Melendez. Since joining the UFC ranks in September of 2014, the former Bellator lightweight champ has gone 1-1, suffering a decision loss to current division #1 contender Donald Cerrone in his octagon debut.

Meanwhile, former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will return to the cage for the first time since losing his title to Rafael dos Anjos when he squares off with Alvarez in “Beantown”. Prior to his loss to “RDA”, “Showtime” had put together a five-fight win streak which included stoppage victories over Donald Cerrone, Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez respectively.

The event, which is expected to serve as UFC Fight Night 81, is set for January 17 at Boston’s TD Garden.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots Preview

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots Preview

By: Chris Taylor (Kalapaki Joe’s Staff Writer)

The defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots will kick off the 2015 NFL regular season at home tonight when they play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pats and Steelers last met in 2013, with New England winning at home by a final score of 55-31.

The Patriots will have their star quarterback Tom Brady under center tonight in Foxborough, who will likely be carrying a chip on his shoulder in to tonight’s game.

New England will be without the services of starting running back LeGarrette Blount tonight, as he is currently serving a suspension.

Expect Rob Gronkowski to have a big game tonight, as he is facing a Steelers defense who struggled for the better part of the 2014 season.

On defense the Pats will look a lot different from last season. The Pats lost corners Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, as well as defensive tackle Vince Wilfork this offseason.

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking to play spoiler at Gillette Stadium this evening.

The Steelers have split their last four meetings with the Pats, earning a 33-10 road victory seven years ago in New England.

Ben Roethlisberger will likely be throwing the ball a lot this evening, as Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell is out for the first two games of the season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Pittsburgh’s star receiver Antonio Brown should have a big game tonight against a questionable Pats secondary.

The Steelers have gone 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games as road underdogs.

Las Vegas currently has New England pegged as a -6.5 point favorite, with the over/under listed as 54.5 points.

This game has the potential to be a shootout, as both teams sport amazing offenses and lackluster defenses.

I predict that the Patriots will win this game by a final score of 34-23.

T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz headlines UFC Fight Night 81

T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz headlines UFC Fight Night 81

For the first time in history, a UFC title fight will air on FOX Sports 1.

UFC officials announced yesterday that a bantamweight title fight between T.J. Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz will headline January’s UFC Fight Night 81 event in Boston.

UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw (12-2 MMA) was most recently seen in action at July’s UFC on FOX 16 event, where he defeated former champ Renan Barao via TKO for a second time. Dillashaw won the UFC bantamweight title in May of 2014 and has looked absolutely stellar in his most recent performances.

Meanwhile, former UFC bantamweight title holder Dominick Cruz (20-1 MMA) will be looking to prove that he is still the best 135-pound fighter on the planet when he meets Dillashaw in Beantown. Cruz was last seen in action at last September’s UFC 178 event, where he scored an impressive 61-second knockout over Takeya Mizugaki. “The Dominator” never actually lost his UFC bantamweight championship, but was instead stripped of his title after a string of injuries forced him out of competition for over two years.

UFC Fight Night 81 takes place January 17 in Boston. The event will air on FOX Sports 1.
