Sam Bradford to start at QB for the Vikings against the Packers

Former NFL #1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford will make his Minnesota Vikings debut in the teams home opener against long time rival the Green Bay Packers in this evening’s edition of Sunday Night Football.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer made the announcement earlier today.

The Vikings (1-0) earned a road victory over the Tennessee Titans last week. Shaun Hill was the Vikings quarterback in week 1 and played well enough to get the win. However, the Vikings staff obviously believe that Sam Bradford will help improve their odds of defeating the Packers in week 2’s edition of Sunday Night Football.

Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers (1-0) scored a road victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers played well under center and will need another stellar performance tonight if his team is to defeat a tough Vikings squad led by a nasty defense.

Oddsmakers currently have the Packers favored as a -3 point road favorite for Sunday Night Football.

Minnesota Vikings trade for Sam Bradford

The Minnesota Vikings executed a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, acquiring former No. 1 overall pick quarterback Sam Bradford.

The Vikings gave up a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018 that can become a third- or second-rounder based on conditions. The Eagles will pay $11 million of Bradford’s salary as part of the deal, which means Minnesota is only playing Bradford $7 million in 2016, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The news was first reported by ESPN.

The trade comes shortly after Vikings franchise quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a gruesome dislocated knee injury and torn ACL on Tuesday.

The Vikings won the NFC North division last year under Teddy.

Bradford threw for 3,725 yards, 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season in Chip Kelly’s Eagles offense.

If he’s healthy, expect rookie Carson Wentz to start Week 1 for the Eagles, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater will miss the entire season

Terrible news for Minnesota Vikings fans as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will miss the entire 2016-2017 season after suffering a torn ACL and dislocated knee.

Backup quarterback Shaun Hill will now replace Bridgewater under center.

Teddy released the following statement to his fans and the NFL community:

“I want to thank the Wilf Family and the entire Vikings organization, all of my teammates, friends, Eric Sugarman and the amazing Vikings athletic training staff and the fans who have sent me messages and wished me well. Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot to me and have helped me in this difficult time. There are great players and great leaders in our locker room who are going to fight to the end to reach the goals we set for 2016. I will be there mentally, physically and in spirit to support them accomplish those goals.

In order to have a testimony, you have to have a test. I come from amazing DNA, I watched my mom fight and win against breast cancer. We will, as a team, attack my rehab with the same vigor and energy. My faith is strong, my faith is unwavering and my vision is clear. My purpose will not be denied.”

The Minnesota Vikings (10-5) clinched a spot in this year’s NFL playoffs by crushing the New York Giants (6-9) 49-17 on Sunday Night Football.

Minnesota’s star running back Adrian Peterson posted another 100+ yards rushing game and added a touchdown in the blowout victory.

Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater played well under center, completing 15 of 25 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown.

The Vikings defense was at their nasty best on Sunday night. The squad intercepted Eli Manning on three separate occasions, one of which was returned for a touchdown score by safety Harrison Smith.

Minnesota will travel to Green Bay (10-5) this upcoming weekend with the NFC North title on the line.

The Vikings and Packers met earlier this season in Minnesota, with Green Bay winning handily by a final score of 30-13.

Green Bay is coming off a 38-8 blowout loss at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.
