GSP says he is interested in fighting Tyron Woodley

Tyron Woodley realized his dreams on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia when he defeated Robbie Lawler to become the UFC welterweight champion of the world.

Woodley said now that he is the champion, he is looking for the biggest fights possible to generate the most money and doesn’t care about what the rankings are saying.

“Nick Diaz is a top-five welterweight of all time in my eyes,” Woodley said at the post-fight press conference (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “Georges St-Pierre is the No. 1 welterweight in my eyes. If I’m an athlete in this sport, in this division and I want to say I’m the best in the world, I feel like I should compete against those guys. So I don’t feel any obligation to go by the rankings. We all know how those rankings are produced anyway. And I want to go out there and I want to fight the money fights.”

MMA Fighting reached out to Georges St-Pierre via text message on Sunday and asked if he would be interested in fighting the new welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. “Rush” simply replied, “Yes.”

Will we see Georges St-Pierre return to the Octagon to fight Tyron Woodley?

Despite all the buzz of a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, UFC President Dana White is working on the next UFC fight for “The Notorious.”

White appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Wednesday to announce Luke Rockhold would be fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 199 after Chris Weidman was forced out of the middleweight championship bout due to an injury. White was asked about the latest on McGregor and he shared this bit of information.

“Lorenzo and I are having dinner with Conor McGregor. So tonight at like 10, I’ll have a lot more answers on the Conor McGregor situation,” said White. “We’re in a good place with Conor and we’re looking to make his next fight. We should have that done tonight.”

The UFC announced on Tuesday that welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will defend his belt at UFC 201 in Atlanta.

Lawler will put his title on the line against surging contender Tyron Woodley in the cards main event.

Lawler will defend his title for the third time after being in two championship wars, with his most recent victory coming over Carlos Condit at UFC 195 in January.

Woodley is on a two-fight win streak but has not competed since January of 2015 after beating Kelvin Gastelum. Woodley was scheduled to face former champion Johny Hendricks in October, but the bout was called off a day before the fight when Hendricks could not make weight.

Who do you think will win this welterweight title fight?
