The Montreal Canadiens have advanced to the second-round of this year’s NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, this after defeating the Ottawa Senators by a final score of 2-0 in game six of their first-round playoff series on Sunday night.

The Habs were led by the play of their All-Star goaltender Carey Price, who stopped all 43 shots the Senators brought his way yesterday evening in Ottawa.

It was a disappointing end to a fantastic season for the Senators, who made the playoffs thanks to an amazing stretch of wins over the final 3 months of the regular season.

Montreal jumped out to a quick 3-0 series lead over Ottawa, but the resilient Senators clawed their way back by earning victories in games four and five.

Unfortunately for Sens fans, there was just not enough gas left in the team’s tank when all was said and done.

Montreal will now advance to play the winner of the Detroit Redwings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning series, which Detroit currently leads 3-2.

The Minnesota Wild defeated the St. Louis Blues by a final score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon, thus advancing to the second-round of this year’s NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Minnesota captain Zach Parise scored 2 goals in yesterday’s win, including a key short-handed goal in the game’s opening period.

Goaltender Davan Dubnyk had another sensational game for Minnesota, stopping 30 of the 31 shots the Blues put his way.

The Wild will now face division rivals the Chicago Blackhawks in round #2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Blackhawks have knocked Minnesota out of the post-season in both of the past two playoffs seasons.

Last year, Chicago and Minnesota met in the second-round of the playoffs, with the Blackhawks winning the series in six games.

The Wild will be hoping that the third time is the charm against a Blackhawks team that has won 2 of the past 5 Stanley Cup Championships.

July’s stacked “UFC on FOX 16” card just got another amazing lightweight fight!

UFC officials recently announced that Joe Lauzon will be stepping into the octagon to face PRIDE legend Takanori Gomi!

Lauzon is looking to bounce back from his loss to Al Iaquinta with an impressive performance against the Japanese legend. Prior to the loss, Lauzon had dished out a couple of impressive wins over Michael Chiesa and Mac Danzig.

Meanwhile, former PRIDE lightweight champion, Takanori Gomi, will be looking to steal a win from Lauzon this July in Chi-town. “The Fireball Kid” still packs one hell of a punch, but it hasn’t shown in his last couple octagon outtings as he is 2-2 in his last 4 fights.

UFC on FOX 16 takes place 25 live from the United Center in Chicago. The event is headlined by a bantamweight title fight rematch featuring current champ T.J. Dillashaw taking on former title holder Renan Barao.

Who do you have winning this lightweight battle?

The Nashville Predators entered Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks down 3-1 in their best of seven divisional series.

Despite their having backs up against the wall and the knowledge that their squad needs to win three straight games, the Predators put forth a gritty performance that saw the team earn a 5-2 victory yesterday night in Nashville.

Last night’s win did not come easy, in fact, the Predators and Blackhawks entered yesterday’s third period knotted up at one goal apiece.

However, in the opening 4 minutes of the games third period Nashville was able to light up Chicago goaltender Scott Darling with 3 goals, thus taking a 4-1 lead.

Predators star rookie forward, Filip Forsberg, netted a hat-trick in yesterday’s game and veteran James Neal added his second ‘big goal’ in as many games.

The series now shifts back to Chicago for game six, which takes this Saturday night at 8pm EST.
