Lauzon replaces Parke, meets Sanchez at UFC 180

Joe Lauzon has replaced the injured Norman Parke, and will now meet Diego Sanchez at November’s UFC 180 event in Mexico City.

UFC officials confirmed the news earlier today.

Joe Lauzon (24-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC) was most recently seen in action at last month’s UFC Fight Night 50 event in Connecticut, where he scored a second-round TKO victory over TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa. That victory made it 2 in a row for “J-Lau,” as he had previously scored a decision win over Mac Danzig at last December’s UFC on FOX 9 event.

Meanwhile, Diego Sanchez (25-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) recently snapped a 2-fight losing skid by earning a highly controversial judges decision victory over Ross Pearson at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Albuquerque. Prior to that, the 32-year-old had suffered back-to-back decision losses to Gilbert Melendez and Myles Jury.

UFC 180 takes place November 15 live from Arena Mexico in Mexico City. The pay-per-view event is headlined by a heavyweight title fight featuring champion Cain Velasquez taking on #1 contender Fabricio Werdum.

Be sure to catch the UFC 180 pay-per-view event live at one of Kauai’s Kalapaki Joe’s locations!

Dana White: Conor McGregor Is The Logical #1 Contender

Dana White: Conor McGregor Is The Logical #1 Contender

By: Chris Taylor

At the start of each week, UFC president Dana White sits down with web content producer Matt Parrino for The Download, where he discusses the most recent octagon news.

In this week’s edition, of The Download Uncle Dana talked about Conor McGregor and how he feels the young Irishman is the logical #1 contender at 145-pounds, his words:

“Here’s the thing: If you go down the list, every one of those guys has fought Jose Aldo already,” said White. “Conor hasn’t. So who do you line up next for the champ other than Conor? Everybody else has fought him.”

“So Lorenzo and I went to dinner with him last night, and he said he wants to fight Diego Sanchez in Mexico at 155. I said, ‘You’re nuts. No way, we’ll get you a fight. You’ll be fighting soon enough.’ The kid just wants to fight. He said him and Diego have been talking back and forth for a while and he wanted to fight him. We basically told him no and he went out and put that on Twitter anyway.”

Should Conor McGregor get the next crack at the UFC’s coveted featherweight title? Or does it make more sense for the winner of November’s Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson bout to get the nod?

A lightweight bout between Ross Pearson and Al Iaquinta is the latest addition to November’s UFC Fight Night 55 event in Sydney.

Charles Oliveira vs. Jeremy Stephens set for TUF 20 Finale co-main event

Charles Oliveira vs. Jeremy Stephens set for TUF 20 Finale co-main event

A key featherweight bout will serve as the co-main event for the “TUF 20 Finale” in Las Vegas, as UFC officials recently announced that Charles Oliveira and Jeremy Stephens have been booked as the evenings co-feature.

Charles Oliveira was supposed to fight Nik Lentz at last month’s “UFC Fight Night 50” event. However, “Do Bronx” failed to make the featherweight limit of 146-pounds and then wasn’t cleared to fight after falling ill with a viral infection.

Prior to that incident, Oliveira had strung together 2-straight victories, which he earned by submitting opponents Andy Ogle and Hatsu Hioki respectively.

Meanwhile, Jeremny Stephens was last seen in action in the main event of UFC Fight Night 44 where he lost a hard fought decision to perennial contender Cub Swanson. That loss snapped a 3-fight win streak for “Lil Heathen,” who had defeated Estevan Payan, Rony Jason and Darren Elkins since dropping down from lightweight to 145-pounds.

The TUF 20 Finale is set for December 12 live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event, which airs on FOX Sports 1, will crown the UFC first ever women’s strawweight champion.
