Charles Oliveira vs. Jeremy Stephens set for TUF 20 Finale co-main event

A key featherweight bout will serve as the co-main event for the “TUF 20 Finale” in Las Vegas, as UFC officials recently announced that Charles Oliveira and Jeremy Stephens have been booked as the evenings co-feature.

Charles Oliveira was supposed to fight Nik Lentz at last month’s “UFC Fight Night 50” event. However, “Do Bronx” failed to make the featherweight limit of 146-pounds and then wasn’t cleared to fight after falling ill with a viral infection.

Prior to that incident, Oliveira had strung together 2-straight victories, which he earned by submitting opponents Andy Ogle and Hatsu Hioki respectively.

Meanwhile, Jeremny Stephens was last seen in action in the main event of UFC Fight Night 44 where he lost a hard fought decision to perennial contender Cub Swanson. That loss snapped a 3-fight win streak for “Lil Heathen,” who had defeated Estevan Payan, Rony Jason and Darren Elkins since dropping down from lightweight to 145-pounds.

The TUF 20 Finale is set for December 12 live from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event, which airs on FOX Sports 1, will crown the UFC first ever women’s strawweight champion.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (20-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) returned to the octagon in emphatic fashion on Saturday night, this after a 3-year layoff from the sport due to injuries.

Cruz needed only 59 seconds to knockout the UFC’s #5 ranked featherweight, Takeya Mizugaki, in the main event of the UFC 178 prelims.

At the events post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White announced that “The Dominator” had earned the right to challenge current champ T.J. Dillashaw for the UFC bantamweight title, hardware that Cruz had never actually lost.

A date for the bantamweight title fight has yet to be determined.

Following his bonus-earning performance at UFC 178, Dominick Cruz used his time on the microphone to throw a jab at Dillashaw and the entire Team Alpha Male crew saying the following:

“I look forward to beating up more members of Team Alpha-Fail!”

I’m already super excited for this newly announced title fight. Who do you have winning KJ nation, Cruz or Dillashaw?

A key featherweight bout will headline November’s ‘UFC Fight Night 57’ event in Austin, Texas.

UFC officials announced yesterday that former lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar (17-4-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) will face perennial contender Cub Swanson (21-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in the evenings main event.

Frankie Edgar was last seen in action in the main event of July’s “TUF 19 Finale” in Las Vegas, where he defeated MMA legend B.J. Penn via third-round TKO. The victory marked Frankie’s second-straight win, this after falling short in 3 consecutive championship bouts across 2 divisions.

Meanwhile, Cub Swanson will be looking to stretch his already impressive win streak to seven when he faces “The Answer” this fall. Swanson most recently defeated Jeremy Stephens via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Fight Night 44 this past June. Prior to that victory, Cub was coming off a TKO win over Dennis Siver which occurred at UFC 162.
