The injury bug has struck again!

This time it’s former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (18-3 MMA) who has suffered an elbow injury, which will force him out of his scheduled UFC on FOX 16 bout with Myles Jury (15-1 MMA).

The news was announced on Thursday night’s edition of “FOX Sports Live.”

According to the report, Pettis will undergo elbow surgery next Tuesday. No timetable has been given for his return.

Replacing “Showtime” against Jury will be fellow striking specialist Edson Barboza (15-3 MMA).

Both Barboza and Jury will be looking to rebound after suffering losses in their most recent efforts.

Jury suffered the first loss of his career to Donald Cerrone at January’s UFC 182 event.

Meanwhile, Barboza was most recently seen in action opposite Michael Johnson, whom he lost to at February’s UFC Fight Night 61 event.

UFC on FOX 16 takes place July 25 live from Chicago’s United Center.

Titans expect Mariota to start at QB this season!‏

Titans expect Mariota to start at QB this season!‏

The Tennessee Titans used the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to select former Oregon star quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The 21-year-old Hawaiian had a sensational final college season, throwing for 4,454 yards and 42 touchdowns with the Ducks.

Despite the arrival of the 2014 Heisman trophy winner, many fans and media thought that Marcus Mariota would have to battle Zach Mettenberger for the Titans starting quarterback position.

However, according to Titans GM Ruston Webster and coach Ken Whisenhunt, the starting quarterback position is already Mariota’s and they plan to use the skills of Zach Mettenberger as an insurance policy incase anything happens to their new franchise QB:

“The way this league is going on, very seldom do you get a quarterback that goes through the whole season,” Whisenhunt said. “So Zach will get an opportunity at some point. When he does, he’s got to be ready to take advantage of that. He’ll (Zach) get a lot of work in preseason. He’ll get some work with the (first team) and he’ll get prepared.”

Webster added:

“We just talked before I came in (to the news conference), so he’s up for the challenge,” Webster added. “I think one of the things that was important for Zach to understand is that he built up a lot of good equity with what he did. There’s a lot of potential there, and we’re excited about Zach. I think he will embrace this situation here and he won’t be traded.”

The injury bug has struck again!

This time it’s June’s UFC Fight Night 69 event headliner that has taken the hit.

UFC officials announced today that Alexander Gustaffson has been forced out of his scheduled main event bout with former title challenger Glover Teixeira.

No word yet if a replacement opponent will be sought for Teixeira to keep him on the card in Berlin.

UFC officials did not give any additional information regarding Gustafsson’s injury.

A strawweight title fight featuring current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (9-0 MMA) taking on challenger Jessica Penne (12-2 MMA) will now headline the card.

Jedrzejczyk will make her first title defense since defeating inaugural strawweight champion Carla Esparza via second-round TKO at March’s UFC 185 event in Dallas. The 27-year-old Polish fighter has gone a perfect 9-0 in her young MMA career, which includes 4 stoppage wins to her credit.

Meanwhile, Jessica Penne was most recently seen in action at December’s TUF 20 Finale event, where she scored a hard-fought split-decision win over Randa Markos. Prior to her victory over Markos, Penne suffered a decision loss to Carla Esparza in the semifinal of Season 20 of “The Ultimate Fighter”.

UFC Fight Night 69 takes place June 20 live from the O2 World Berlin in Germany’s capital city. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

The Tennessee Titans used the #2 pick in this year’s NFL draft to select former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The dynamic Hawaiian stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 222 pounds.

The 2014 Heisman Trophy winner, Mariota, was thought to be coveted by former coach Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles, among other teams.

But in the end, Tennessee opted to keep the 21-year-old star for themselves.

Marcus Mariota put up unbelievable numbers with the Oregon Ducks last season, throwing for 4,454 yards and 42 touchdowns.

The Titans are hopeful that Mariota can find similar success with their receiving core, which includes Nate Washington, Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright.
