News broke yesterday that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones had suffered a leg injury that would force him out of his scheduled UFC 178 bout with Daniel Cormier.

The Jones vs. Cormier title fight had been put together after #1 contender Alexander Gustafsson had suffered a knee injury that forced him out of a planned rematch with Jones, which was scheduled for the same September event.

After catching news of the “Bones” injury, “The Mauler” took to his Facebook page to voice his displeasure with being ‘passed over’ for his title opportunity:

“I just heard the news that Jones is injured and the fight is rescheduled to January 3????” Gustafsson wrote on his official Facebook fan page. “Until then, I will be more than ready, it was MY fight to begin with and I WANT the fight as the number 1 contender. End of story!!”

One can’t blame Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) for being a little pissed-off by the news. The hard-hitting Swede had earned his title fight rematch by defeating Jimi Manuwa via second-round TKO at March’s “UFC Fight Night 37” event in London, England.

Unfortunately for Gus, it seems that UFC officials, as well as many fans, are more interested in seeing the Jones vs. Cormier match at UFC 182 in January.

Stay tuned to for further details as they develop.
