Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort and his lawyer Michael Alonso met with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today in order to obtain a license to fight Chris Weidman at December’s UFC 181 event in Las Vegas.

The meeting was a success, as NSAC officials granted “The Phenom” a conditional license.

Following the meeting, UFC officials announced that Chris Weidman (12-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) will defend his belt against Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) at UFC 181, which takes place December 6 live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Belfort was last seen in action at November’s “UFC Fight Night 32” event in Brazil, where he scored a first-round head kick knockout over former Strikeforce and Pride champ Dan Henderson. The violent stoppage remarkably marked “The Phenom’s” third-straight win by head kick knockout. Prior to Henderson, Vitor had put away both Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold in the same fashion.

Meanwhile, current UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s most recent octagon appearance came earlier this month at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, where he defeated challenger Lyoto Machida by unanimous decision. Prior to his win over “The Dragon,” Weidman defeated Anderson Silva on back-to-back occasions.
