A middleweight title fight will co-headline May’s UFC 187 event in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced yesterday that current 185-pound champ Chris Weidman will take on former UFC title holder Vitor Belfort in the evenings co-main event slot.

Chris Weidman was last seen in action at July’s UFC 175 event, where he scored a hard-fought unanimous decision win over former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. The “All-American” was expected to face Belfort at this month’s UFC 184 event in LA, but was forced out of the fight with an injury.

Meanwhile, Vitor Belfort will fight for the first time since November of 2013 when he faces off with Weidman this May. “The Phenom” is currently riding a three-fight win streak, with all 3 wins coming by form of head kick KO’s. Belfort’s recent victims include Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and most recently Dan Henderson.

UFC 187 takes place May 23 live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight featuring champion Jon Jones taking on number one contender Anthony Johnson.
