When the Golden State Warriors added Kevin Durant to their already stacked 73-win team this past offseason the message was clear. Nothing less then a championship would be sufficient in 2017.
So far the Warriors seemed poised to make good on the expectation, sweeping the Portland Trailblazers 4 games to 0 in round one of the playoffs.
With that said, sweeping the Utah Jazz will not be as easy.
The Jazz ended the regular season with a 51 and 31 record, finishing as the fifth seed in the NBA’s Western Conference.
Utah proved they are a mentally tough squad in the opening round of this year’s NBA playoffs, defeating the Los Angeles Clippers in a wild seven-game series that culminated with a 104-91 road victory.
In order for Utah to upset the heavily favored Warriors, the Jazz will need center Rudy Gobert to play at his absolute best.
In addition, Utah will need to find a way to shutdown the talent rich Golden State lineup.
The Warriors got back Kevin Durant from injury during their first-round series with Portland, and now boast a lineup that includes Draymond Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
With such a talented squad, including a solid bench, this series is really Golden State’s to lose.
Game 1 takes place tonight in at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
