UFC President Dana White plans to have “the talk” with former two-division champ BJ Penn, well, that’s IF “The Prodigy” fails to emerge victorious this Sunday in his trilogy bout with Frankie Edgar.
The brash Zuffa fight boss talked about the possibility on FOX Sports 1, as transcribed by Dave Doyle:
“This is B.J. Penn’s last fight possibly,” stated the UFC President. “If he wins, we’ll see what he does from there, but if he loses, I will actually push for him to retire.”
BJ Penn and Frankie Edgar will meet for a third time in the headlining bout of the “TUF 19 Finale,” which goes down this Sunday (July 6) live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dana White complimented the future Hall of Famer by adding:
“It could be possibly watching Michael Jordan playing his last basketball game. It could be Tiger Woods’ last golf game.”
Since losing his UFC lightweight title to Frankie Edgar at UFC 112 in April of 2010, Penn has since gone 1-3-1 in his past 5 fights. BJ’s latest effort saw him lose a lopsided decision to welterweight standout Rory MacDonald at December 2012’s “UFC on FOX 5” event in Seattle.
Be sure to come cheer on BJ Penn when he takes on Frankie Edgar live at one of Kauai’s Kalapaki Joe’s locations this Sunday! Reservations for tables of 8 or more are recommended and can be made online!
